Introduction to Language Arts Stations
Since I am still in the process of testing for PALs, groups are not finalized for reading or word study. Responsive Classroom stresses the importance of modeling, so, I modeled station groups for the students and we practiced working in groups. The focus today was not on a particular skill for reading or a sort in word study, but to practice working independently on a task while the teacher pulls a group to work with. I was amazed at how well the students worked and how focused the small group was when pulled to work with me. We will keep practicing stations throughout the week and begin our real reading and word study rotations next week.
